Shepherds Rest
Is situated on the Wairarapa coast in the middle of a family owned working sheep, beef and deer farm. Historically it was built to house the 8 shepherds who worked on Glenburn when it was some 16,000 acres in size. In 2010 it was renovated to operate as holiday accommodation, it now sleeps 11, a kitchen and dining area was created in the large lounge. Window seating and a comfortable couch with numerous cane chairs surround the TV / DVD and wood burner making a cosy space.
A complete kitchen includes a free standing oven with warming draw, microwave, 4 place toaster and a fridge /freezer, complimentary tea, coffee, sugar hot water jug and coffee plunger are available
A long passage way with 8 bedrooms and 2 toilets with a vanity lead off at intervals, at the end of the passage a door leads you into a roomy porch. A covered walkway takes you to the ablution block 1 toilet and 2 showers, double laundry tubs, washing machine and a double hand basin with mirror completes this space.
The bedrooms consist of 2 queen beds, 1 twin single, and 5 single rooms each large enough to sleep that extra child if necessary. All bed linen is supplied including towels, the beds have feather or wool duvets plus an extra woollen blanket for those cooler nights is kept in the wardrobe along with a second pillow
The back yard has a large grass area and garden including an easy access washing line, this private area is fully fenced. A BBQ ( weber) with gas supplied
Parking is readily available for vehicles and /or boats
All rubbish must be removed from the station,¿ take out what you bring in¿, we practise recycling and the depo is within easy reach on the way to Masterton
Our policy is no dogs no exceptions to prevent sheep measle spreading in our flock
The coast is an easy walk away, with safe swimming spots and many areas for diving and gathering paua and crayfish. A doc walking track taking keen nature lovers to the Honeycomb Rock which is an amazing example of climate conditions weathering sand stone rock out crops. Seal colonies populate the coast and natural wetlands create variety along its shore.
