2 Bedroom House in Pukawa
Piwakawaka a Pukawa is our holiday home on the western side of Lake Taupo,NZ's largest lake. The house is nestled amongst the native bush and we love sitting on the deck, having a BBQ surrounded by bush ,listening to the birdsong of NewZealand's special native birds, including tui, kereru, karearea and piwakawaka. It is a very peaceful place to be.
The house is two stories and you will stay in the upstairs level.(no-one will be downstairs except in emergencies). Its a cosy wooden cottage upstairs with kitchen, 2 bedrooms, laundry, bathroom and the living area out to the deck.In winter we light our wood fire, listen to records, play DVD's or use the wifi to chrome cast a movie. We often work remotely here as we have fibre-connected broadband. In summer it's a short walk down the hill to the lakefront reserve for swimming and kayaking. All year round there are also bush walks within the Pukawa Bay and in the National parks.
On a Wednesday we walk up the hill to our wonderful Oreti Restaurant for Steak and Pasta Night. Any other night they provide an attractive menu.
In the mornings we walk through the bush to The Omori Store, where they serve a great coffee and basic provisions.
10 kms away at Tokaanu are the local hot pools.
15 kms away is the local shopping centre of Turangi for hardware and groceries. Look out for Kōwhai and Lily for gifts and fashion. Turangi sits on the Tongariro river, renowned for its Trout fishing. The Hare and Copper on Grace Road, Turangi is another good restaurant.
