It’s still only a three-minute drive from town and five minutes from The Junction though, so you’re certainly not far from the off-mountain action if that’s what you’re looking for.
The slopes of Turoa are just over 20 minutes drive away, and Whakapapa can be reached in about 45. If you’re here on a summer holiday, you’ll find some great hiking and mountain biking trails around, or why not take a day trip to the Whanganui River and enjoy a guided paddle through this pristine part of New Zealand.
