By some of the best fishing on the lake- in the lake straight offshore and in the adjacent Tauranga-Taupo River and close to the major Tongariro fishery and the mountain lakes of Rotoaira and Otamangakau. This is a year round fishery and the location provides access to outstanding fishing spots, including in the winter when the river runs of trout are at their thickest. Harling in the bay offshore is great in the spring, jigging and deep trolling in the summer in the lake in a wide range of local spots, stream mouth fishing in the autumn and winter at local river mouths- it just goes on and on. This is an excellent fishing location.
Boat ramp 200 metres down the reserve track. Motuoapa boat ramp and marina close by. Kaimanawa Forest Park access nearby at Kiko Road.
Close to the mountain for skiing and to the stores and cafes. Turangi 7 minutes away. The hot pools of Tokaanu 10 minutes away.
Local walks start from the house and it is close to river and mountain walks and biking trails e.g. The Tongariro River Trails. Many good boating and kayaking options in lake and rivers.
