The house was designed to face south so it would capture the scene towards Karekare beach whilst the front of the home enjoys views toward Piha beach. A covered entry frames a view like a living artwork. The house is bathed in sun from early morning to sunset. It's a very peaceful and quiet place, and guests usually leave feeling very relaxed! The home has a simple-yet-striking geometry. Two offset forms of varying heights add interest to the architecture. Entry is via a deck from the north-facing courtyard. The lower level of the home includes a kitchen, living and dining zone, which steps down to a TV pit that has striking views of the Waitakere Ranges. Comfy seating and a wood-burner offers a snug respite from the elements in winter. King size bed and views over the valley and ocean from both bedrooms.The bath has uninterrupted views over a hillside of tea trees and is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine while the sun is going down. The home is situated at the top of the Piha hill, 2 minutes by car to the black sand beach and surf. Some of Auckland's best walks are literally on your doorstep and carve through the Waitakere Ranges. This is a unique quiet spot in an extremely rustic, beautiful part of New Zealand. Piha is the main beach but there are 4 beaches (Anawhata, Whites, karekare and Whatipu) all within close proximity. There is a Library, store, cafe, taco truck,, surf club/RSAwith great pub food, art gallery, tennis courts, bowling green, both clubs serve beers, wine and food in summer. The good thing about Piha is that it lies at the base of the Waitakere Ranges, a protected area (park) spanding 20 kilometers back toward auckland city. This is just an awesome part of NZ with so much to offer from surfing to hiking and just chilling out watching the sun set over the Tasmen Sea. There is surf all year round as Piha is one of the West Coasts most consistent surf breaks. KareKare beach (3-4mins by car) is a famous beach featured in the movie This house is also frequently used as a set on Australia /NZ TV show series, 800 words.
